Everything You Need to Know About K12’s Digital Pathways Program

October 14, 2025

As parents, we all want our kids to have the best shot at success—whether that’s getting into college or landing their first job. That’s why we’re so excited about K12 Academy’s new Digital Pathways Certification Program, a growing initiative designed to give students access to real-world, career-ready credentials in today’s most in-demand industries.

In its beginning stages, K12 Academy has launched the Digital Pathways program with Amazon Web Services (AWS)—one of the world’s leading providers of cloud technology training—as its first certification partner.

According to AWS, there are over one million tech jobs open annually in the United States—many requiring certifications in cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and AI. The Digital Pathways program helps address this talent gap by empowering students with career-ready skills before they even leave high school.

Support Every Step of the Way

Through its partnership with AWS and Tallo, K12’s Digital Pathways program allows students to earn stackable digital badges, complete up to eleven AWS badges, and gain as many as three industry-recognized certifications before graduation.

The inaugural cohort students are now completing their certifications, and we spoke with Tammy Campbell, the first digital pathways teacher, on what this experience has meant for students and where the program is headed next.

“They’re not just learning about cloud technology—they’re doing it,” Campbell said. “Our goal is for students to walk away with more than just a certificate. We want them to have connections and opportunities, too.”

Campbell, a computer science teacher from Arkansas Virtual Academy, helps students get certified in real-world cloud computing skills. She teaches the Cloud Practitioner course, an entry level certification designed to introduce students to the world of cloud computing. So far, she has helped students set up virtual networks and servers using AWS Academy tools.

What Are Tallo and AWS?

Tallo is part of the College and Career Services that K12 schools offer. As a partner, Tallo gives K12 students access to career planning tools, certifications, scholarships, networking opportunities, and more.

AWS Academy is an educational program that teaches students how to work in cloud technology—the system that powers much of the internet today. It’s how companies store files, run programs, and host websites online, without relying on local computers. In fact, Netflix, Spotify, and Fortnite all run on AWS!

Once students earn their AWS certification, they can begin a three-month guided mentorship with Tallo to help them confidently step into their next chapter. During this time, they set college or career goals, learn exactly what their certification qualifies them for, and get ready for real opportunities. By the end, students know how to practice interviewssearch for jobs, and apply to positions that match their new skills.

They can also join Tallo’s Education & Training Community Group, a safe online space for connecting with peers and mentors, accessing resources, and exploring internships, jobs, or advanced training. From earning certifications to landing a job, K12 supports students every step of the way.

Preparing for a Successful Future

By the time they graduate, students could step directly into jobs in IT support, cloud operations, and more—or use these certifications to stand out on college applications

“I wish I had something like this in high school,” Campbell said. “These students are leaving with real credentials that can translate into career opportunities right away.”

And this is only the beginning. AWS is the first step in a larger Digital Pathways initiative that will soon include additional certifications and partnerships across other digital and technical fields.

K12 plans to expand the program with more career pathways and advanced digital skills, giving students even greater opportunities to build their tech toolkit and prepare for the jobs of the future.

This program ensures that students won’t just graduate with a diploma—but with skills that truly prepare them for the modern world. Whether they go straight to college or step into the workforce, your student can have a huge head start
